Ubisoft is going all-in on Assassin’s Creed, with six new titles in the works
Assassin’s Creed Fans, there’s good news! Ubisoft plans to increase the number of developers working on the series.
Over the years there have been a lot of Assassin’s Creed titles. The series used to release games every year but then slowed down after Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. The formula has also changed dramatically, with a shift away from traditional stealth-based espionage to a more flashy, RPG-style combat, including looting, skill trees, etc.
The change began with Assassin’s Creed origins. This game had a good balance between the assassination elements that fans love and those previously mentioned RPG components. Ubisoft, however, shifted away completely from stealth with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This rubbed many fans the wrong, as they said it was a great RPG, but a terrible Assassin’s Creed.
The next installment, A.C. Mirage will be set in Baghdad and launch early in 2024.
Ubisoft has announced that they will be increasing the number of staff working on these future titles. These are Mirage Codename Red, Codename Hexe, and Codename Jade although the last three are mysteries. Ubisoft announced recently that it would be increasing its staff to work on future titles. CEO Yves Guillemot said: “As a part of our gradual reallocation of resources, we notably intend to increase the amount of talent working on Assassin’s Creed by 40% in the coming years.”
This is a significant increase and good news for series fans since a larger workforce usually means more ideas, better quality, and a much bigger game. It’s difficult to see how the developers can make Assassin’s Creed games even better.
It’s a bright future for Assassin’s Creed. Now all we have to do is watch and wait until we find out what’s mystery project will be.
