In response to a cease and desist order by Activision, a free-to-play Call of Duty game was shut down.

It’s not surprising that Call of Duty fans are turning to fan-made games for comfort, especially since many claims that Activision has become ” greedier” with its new releases. This is mainly due to the rising prices of all the latest entries. Activision acquired a fan-made Call of Duty game that was quite popular with veteran players.

The FPS was originally created with the Call of Duty Modern Warfare II engine in 2009, but recently switched to Call of Duty Modern Warfare remastered to allow for more players. This free-to-play title combined weapons, maps, and other perks of multiple Call of Duty games. The free-to-play title allowed players to combine a wide range of CoD classic features.

The game was popular with fans and ran for over two years before it became a target and faced legal threats. SM2 developers issued the following announcement, informing them of the cease-and-desist notice they had received. “Today, an Activision Publishing employee received a letter of cease and desist regarding the SM2 Project. […] This order is being followed and we are closing down our operations. “Thank you for all your support in the last two years.”

This is a very sad situation, but this was expected. Nintendo has been particularly ruthless in its treatment of projects that violate their copyright. Call of Duty players will need to settle for modern games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare II (2023) and Warzone 2,, to satisfy their FPS needs. The two titles will be updated regularly with content such as new cosmetics like the Crash Bandicoot Collaboration and older legacy content.
