PlayStation 4 will soon be 10 years old and we already feel ancient
Hey, wanna feel old? What do you mean, “no thank you”, come back here and listen to what I have to say: The PlayStation 4 is trundling towards its tenth Birthday.
That’s right, kids. Yesterday the PS4 was the shiny new bleeding edge of futuristic gaming. Today it’s nearing its first decade, which I think means we can soon start talking about whether or not it qualifies as retro. I’m officially too old.
This horrifying fact was pointed out by several Reddit users, who sent me into cold sweats by reminding me Sony’s console will be 10 in six months. I cried. I screamed. I threw up a little in my mouth.
The PlayStation 4 was – and still is – a wonderful machine that always manages to defy my expectations. Quite how Sony managed to get games like The Last Of Us Part II, Ghost Of Tsushima, and Horizon Forbidden West running on it in its later years I’ll never know. What I do know is that it’s one of the most consistently brilliant consoles out there, has some top-shelf exclusives, and deserves to be considered among the best video game hardware ever made. I, for one, hope it has a great tenth Birthday… even if I admit mine is gathering dust under the TV while its changes of an older brother blocks it from view.
