The Last Of Us is inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame
If we are being completely honest, there are very few games more worthy of praise than The Last of Us. It’s a good thing, considering how many awards it has already received over the years.
The Last of Us has remained a quality franchise, with the exception of The Last of Us: Part I (which launched horribly buggy and became Naughty Dog’s lowest-rated title). It’s hard to deny the impact of the sequel, television adaptation, and the emotional storyline that the original game set into motion.
It’s a little surprising that it took this long to induct The Last of Us into the World Video Game Hall of Fame. But better late than no, right? A press release from the National Museum of Play confirmed the addition of the PS3/PS4 original game to the Hall of Fame in 2018. Other titles include the iconic Wii Launch Title, Wii Sports, the 1971 arcade game Computer Space, and 1996’s Barbie Fashion Designer.
The four titles were up against some tough competition – also competing this year were Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, GoldenEye 007, NBA 2K, Age of Empires, Angry Birds, Wizardry, and Quake. Barbie Fashion Designer might not seem the most obvious choice, but it was able to beat out other classic titles.
In regards to The Last of Us, the press release confirms it was chosen in part because of its “intimate examination of human nature”, its “memorable character” and its “in-depth story”. It’s a game that I don’t think anyone will dispute.
