Rockman X4 is an action, platform video game. Like previous installments in this franchise, Mega Man X4 features action-based platforming stages which the player must clear to advance through to victory and unlock new adventures. At each stage in this installment of Mega Man X series, players must avoid obstacles like falling debris and spikes while also defeating enemy robots to reach its endpoint.
Their character retains many features found in earlier entries such as dashing or scaling walls for maximum success in these stages. Some levels contain ridable vehicles like hover bikes and armored-mecha, and each initial stage contains one Maverick boss who gives players special abilities upon defeating him/her; each boss is weak to certain skillsets adding another layer of strategy when progressing through stages.
