First, your life span is only an hour. Each minute represents a year. As a newborn baby, you join the game server. Your mother is a randomly selected player.
Your survival is dependent on her. Why would she waste her precious time and resources just to keep you alive, when she can save her own life? Because she will die just like everyone else.
If she wants her life to be meaningful, the next generation (aka you) is her only hope. If you live to adulthood, you might be able to have children with other players–and they will give meaning to your life achievements.
Players are working together to rebuild civilization, as part of a growing family tree.
The online game world starts out as a near-infinite expanse of wilderness (four billion meters wide from east to west, and four billion meters wide from north to south, with a total surface area of over 18,000,000,000,000,000,000 square meters, or 36,000 times bigger than Earth). Eve is the first person to join the server. She starts in the wilderness as the root of the family tree.
