Spotify buys Heardle, making it unavailable for now in some countries
Heard is now part of Spotify, the musical cousin to Wordle. The streaming music platform has just announced that it will acquire Heardle at an undisclosed price. However, this means that it is now unavailable for specific users.
I heard that other games, such as Wordle, are similar to what they sound like. Instead of guessing the words, you will listen to a song clip and make a guess. Then, Heardle humiliates you by sending you a bunch of red square emoticons. You might be a pro at it and get one green square.
Spotify has announced adding Heardle into its arsenal of discovery tools. The service sees it as more than just a trivia game.
While the Spotify Heardle deal isn’t significantly different visually, it’s not available to all players. The slight Heardle tweaks today are in the U.S.A., U.K., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. More languages and regions will follow soon. There have been many complaints about the small number of countries. Many complain that Spotify’s Heardle announcement thread on Twitter doesn’t allow them to access the game as they used to.
Waiting for a local launch can be frustrating, but the user’s concern over lost stats or win streaks is even more frustrating. Many share screenshots showing their deleted data, even users from countries supporting it. Spotify’s official Twitter account has received a few complaints from users and has requested tech support by email. However, it has not yet provided any further information on a solution.
Spotify has not made any significant changes for Heardle members who already have access. Spotify has not made any significant changes to its service. Today’s announcement stated that it would remain accessible for all users, and “the look & feel of the game” will continue. The Heardle website seems to be true to its promise. There’s a tiny Spotify icon at the corner. Spotify stated that it plans to integrate other interactive experiences into its platform but did not elaborate on the details. All of your monthly paid subscriptions have been redirected to games.
I never found the Heardle account to be interesting. I was attracted to the Sonic Heardle fan creations and FFXIV Heardle by fans. Even though Spotify may leave its new toy largely unadorned in presentation, I am more concerned about the fan spin-offs. Spotify might not be too concerned about the sea of OST trivia clones from beloved games. Or maybe it will ruin my daily loss streak.
