Ahoy, matey! You might be wondering if the title is correct. I can confirm it. Skull & Bones will be here sooner than you think. Skull & Bones has been in development for almost an eternity. It was initially scheduled to be released in Q3/4 2018. However, delays have been a problem ever since. With UbisoftSingapore at its helm, progress has been made, and it’s now time to get out there and experience the game for yourself.

Since 2013, Skull & Bones’ development has moved in a new direction. Vanessa Seow, Ubisoft Singapore’s world producer, described the new direction as “darker” and “grittier,” with the intent to move away from traditional pirate fantasies. The game takes place in the Indian Ocean during the golden age of pirates. It sounds like a great time to be a pirate, right? Skull & Bones begins with you as a survivor of a shipwreck, stranded in an exotic location in a world where almost everyone wants you dead. The only way to survive, as the name implies, is to become a pirate.

The Skull & Bones World is harsh and unforgiving. Every time you set sail you will face is a host of dance, including storms, pirate hunters and corporations and as hippos and crocodiles. You read that correctly. Keep your crew happy and stock plenty of rum.

Ryan Barnard, Ubisoft Singapore’s senior game director, describes the Skull & Bones gameplay as an “open-sea, pirate experience.” The game begins with a primary ship and weapons. Players must gain Infamy to advance and get new blueprints, designs and craft new ships to terrorize enemy pirates at sea. You and your crewmates can find the correct ship for you. Each ship comes with its unique attributes and playstyles. You’ll initially be limited to the Dhow ship. However, as you gain Infamy Skull & Bones, you can craft larger and more powerful ships.

The Skull & Bones experience revolves around naval combat. Many ship weapons can be obtained through Infamy. The weapons will surpass the typical ship cannons you expect in a pirate game. Skull & Bones has Greek fire, explosive mortars, and bombards that can be thrown onto decks causing ships to sink. Players can combine different armor and ship types to create the ultimate pirate combination for maximum survival chances.

The progression system in Skull & Bones is called Infamy. You will have more opportunities if you earn higher Infamy. You will be more successful in the game, and you will get more dangerous jobs.

Skull & Bones is a game that one person can enjoy, but it is a social game at its core. Everything is done from a co-op perspective. Playing Skull & Bones with your friends is the best way. You can also choose to join PvP servers. This allows you to team with friends and take on other players.

Skull & Bones will release on November 8, 2022. The game will offer cross-play and progression on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S (Studia), Stadia, Amazon Luna, Windows PC, and Windows PC through Ubisoft Store. The release comes at a time when there is a lot of activity. It remains to be seen how the game performs, but Ubisoft Singapore has already provided extensive content for Skull & Bones after launch. The dev team is committed to providing content for many months and years following release. This includes in-game events, weapons, furniture, and more. Even better, all this content is free for players.

It’s easy for us to see the similarities between the games after the success of Rare’s Sea of Thieves. It is easy to forget Skull & Bones was almost ten years in development. As a live-service game, I’m sure that all developers want is to ship it and watch how it does. The release of the game, along with a radical new vision for Skull & Bones could be a turning point.
