PSA: Destiny 2 This Week: Make sure you get those iron banner ornaments
Braces will bring Iron Banner back to the Tower this week for the first-ever time in Season of the Haunted. Bungie has also updated the activity to make it more compatible with Crucible and Gambit and Vanguard Operations. You can also collect a new seal. If you have looked at your Triumphs tab, you may have noticed that one of the Triumphs is required to complete Iron Banner matches while wearing Iron Banner armor. If you were like me, and you just cleaned out your Vault at last season’s end, and when you are annoyed that you have to comply with this requirement.
There’s another way. You can create Universal Ornaments if you have any Iron Banner armor. You can then add them to any Legendary armor that you already have and voila, Iron Banner gear counts towards the Triumph. It’s up to you whether or not to complete Ada’s bounties.
This trick can also be used to increase Iron Banner’s reputation. Your rank progression will be increased by equipping Iron Banner gear (armor, weapons), up to a maximum of 200%. This includes ornaments. If you have an Iron Banner emblem, don’t forget to use it to increase your rank progression by 10%.
Bungie seems to have tied the armor sets to progression as a way to get players to wear seasonal armor, now that sunsetting has been abandoned. The Season of the Haunted Armor grants you more Vestiges of Dread. This seasonal currency is used to reward players at the end of the Nightmare Contentment activity. The Iron Banner change fits in perfectly with that. It’s an excellent incentive to equip different armor sets, while not complicating build options. It’s a good decision to allow ornaments as armor to encourage visual thematics and not force players to buy another set of armor.
