Metroid is a top-selling Nintendo franchise and series. However, it has not been as well-sold as, for example, Mario Kart and Pokemon. Metroid is one of the most significant N’s oldest franchises dating back to the NES.
It also boasts one of the largest fan bases within Nintendo’s entire roster. Metroid fans sometimes have to wait up to 5-7 years before a new game is released, but they never stop coming out of their moon caves or martian trenches when the next entry comes along.
The Metroid series is a highly influential, iconic, and high-quality franchise. It has a sense of dread, atmosphere, and lots of arm cannon action. Sidelining series protagonist Samus Aran is the first cardinal sin Metroid Prime, Federation Force commits. Without Samus, a Metroid game is like Zelda without Link. This should never happen. Federation Force, created with co-op as its goal, destroys the series’ claustrophobic terror.
The cartoony style of art took all air out of the balloon to make matters worse. Metroid fans waited 5 years for a new entry in this series. And they finally got it. Metroid Prime, Federation Force was a disappointment for fans.
Nintendo wanted to capitalize on the success of Metroid Prime, and its sequel, on the GameCube. Hunters brought the Prime series’ core concepts, to the table such as first-person exploration and scanning almost any object of interest to handhelds,
This game is not as good as the Prime games. It’s difficult to control, the levels are uninspiring, and it emphasizes multiplayer, which takes away from what could have made for a better campaign. Although Hunters isn’t as bad as Federation Force, it’s a game that can be skipped easily in the series.
