Square Enix spoiled us with an announcement that Kingdom Hearts 4 was in the making yesterday (10 April).

Kingdom Hearts is set in the mysterious area where Final Fantasy and Disney are intertwined. The number of characters and settings within the franchise has increased as Disney’s empire has grown. The inclusion of Halloween Town, The Nightmare Before Christmas was a great addition to the first Kingdom Hearts video game. The second game had a world that was based on Pirates Of The Caribbean films. The third one, however, was filled with Pixar worlds from Toy Story to Monsters Inc.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was developed in 2005, just before Disney bought Pixar. It may seem like not much has changed since the 2019 release, but we actually have around 15 years’ worth of Disney characters that were newly acquired. Any character acquired during this period could appear in the next instalment of the series.

Many fans have been searching the trailer for new worlds to explore. It is set in Tokyo’s modern-day downtown, but there are glimpses of other scenes. We also see a Kingdom Hearts-style chess set and grassy forest land.

Twitter detectives are on the case and believe that this grassy world is the forest moon of Endor in the Star Wars universe. The grassy landscape and bizarre plants are very similar to those found in the Ewok home. A strange-looking thing has also been noticed, that looks very similar to the AT-ST’s foot. This can be seen in Return Of The Jedi during the battle for Endor.

Star Wars is one of Disney’s most popular properties. People have speculated since the announcement that something Star Wars-related would appear. While the other worlds remain unexplored, it is fascinating that Disney also owns Marvel.
