Remake of Final Fantasy 9 Looks More Realistic Than Ever
If you haven’t been following gaming news for the past few months (which you probably have, considering you’re right here), you may have heard about the Nvidia/GeForceNow/ huge games leak in September 2013. Someone accessed the Nvidia streaming service database and revealed a whole bunch of games.
Leaks are usually to be taken with a huge pinch of salt. Nvidia confirmed the existence of the games list, although the titles were “speculative” and used only for internal testing. It’s fair enough. However, the official announcements of more and more games that were initially listed on the list have increased in recent months, making it seem almost certain that the rest of the list is confirmed. This is exciting news for Final Fantasy fans, as it includes a remake of FF9.
Yesterday’s announcement of Kingdom Hearts 4 (yes, it really happened – read the whole story here), VGC noted that “Final Fantasy 9 Remake”, the last Square Enix title, was not yet confirmed or trademarked. The other “definitely-real” Square Enix titles are Final Fantasy 7 Remake (for PC) and the remaster Chrono Cross.
Final Fantasy 9 was released in 2000. It’s safe to say it is due for a remake. It remains to be seen if it would be rebuilt from scratch in a similar manner to the FF7 remake. They might choose something entirely different, such as the Dragon Quest 3HD-2D Remake. Side note: We all agree that HD-2D should continue to happen. Right.
Although I stated that this was confirmed, it is not yet official. So don’t get too excited. If it’s true, however, July would be the best time to announce it. This would coincide with the original Japanese release date. You could celebrate it, but that’s a guess. I don’t.
