Konami finally admits what we all knew about ‘football.
Scores in the 20s across all consoles on review aggregator Metacritic showed that both players and critics were disappointed by Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer rebrand.
FIFA was released in September 2021. However, it did not take down FIFA. It quickly rose to the lowest-rated game in Steam history, mainly because of its technical problems, predatory microtransactions and lack of game modes and teams. It was assumed that the game was rushed. Now it appears that Konami has confirmed this.
Konami confirmed in a statement to VGC that eFootball wasn’t ready at the time it was released. Konami, which is one of Japan’s top game developers, blamed several factors for the failure to launch the game. These included the use of a new engine, difficulties in supporting the new consoles and the pivot to a free-to-play model.
“Consequently, the game received negative feedback about its quality.” We have made improvements and corrections to eFootball since its launch in September. This was based on feedback and opinions.
The new update, due to be released on April 14, will address many technical problems and other weaknesses that players have reported. A spokesperson for the company praised the community’s detailed feedback and said that the company takes comments from players “very seriously”.
The spokesperson evaded being asked if the game was ready for release. It seems probable that they wanted it shipped in September regardless of its current state. “We didn’t plan to delay the release as we had a strong desire for the new game to be available to our users as soon as possible.
The update is reportedly a significant improvement to the game, but we’ll have to wait for feedback from fans for a few more days to see if it has made football the game they wanted.
