Dragalia lost. The Nintendo published gacha will be closing. The game’s ongoing service is expected to end at an undetermined future date. This has been true technically. Nothing lasts forever. But the development made a statement today. This is… not a good sign.

The statement states that the Dragalia Lost main campaign will conclude in July 2022 with part 2 of Chapter 26, the final and climactic chapter to the long-running story. The service for the game will end after the main campaign is over. In a future notification, we will provide more information about the end-of-service schedule.

However, the shutdown process begins much earlier than that. In fact, it could be next week. “The game will no longer receive updates for content beyond those related to the main campaign or certain quests” as of March 21, 2022. The mystery surrounding when service will end completely is still a big one. It’s unlikely they would announce it sooner than it is, however.

If you don’t remember Dragalia Lost, I don’t blame you. Gacha is a very competitive market. Although the game is published under Nintendo’s name, it was created by Cygames, the much more well-received Granblue Fantasy makers. This is not the only gacha game that has Nintendo backing.

Fire Emblem Heroes, a somewhat hornier game where already-improperly-dressed-for-battle characters’ clothes explode if they take too much damage, appears to be going strong. Dragalia Lost has always been a little more family-friendly with its overall sexy JPEG. This probably didn’t do any favours in a market about selling sexy JPEGs. Not when Arknights and Genshin Impact have exploded onto the market since Dragalia Lost was launched in 2018.

I enjoyed Dragalia Lost, which was actually quite a bit. Ironically, it served as a good training wheel for Granblue Fantasy. This better aligns my desired line between “interesting, sexy character designs” and “cheesy and ridiculous cringe.” The bikini is made of water balloons and is very popular.

All that said, I will miss the game’s music. Dragalia Lost featured some incredible bangers, often played over the real-time battles and boss fights that comprised the portion where you actually play this game.

This game was great. Dragalia Lost was fine. Although I don’t know if I will be able to lament the loss of Dragalia Lost, I am sorry for those who stayed on board. It has been years since I invested any money in the JPEG mill. It has been long enough that the sunk costs have escaped into a memory hole, so I don’t need to worry anymore. However, I am sure there are others out there who are bummed.
