Bandai Namco and From Software have been in some trouble following the disclosure that the Dark Souls games had an online security vulnerability that could expose users to RCE threats. The report by Andrea Shearon contains a detailed breakdown of the situation and how community members brought it to their attention. Each of the Dark Souls games was removed offline. However, the statements about the case weren’t clear. They stated that it was to investigate an “issue with online services”.

Another statement was posted this morning. It was again vague about the whole ordeal to the point that anyone passing by might assume it was about server stability. While this statement does mention that the root cause of the vulnerability was identified, it doesn’t address the issue of Dark Souls game stability. It does say that Bandai Namco and From Software are looking into whether the same problem could occur when Elden Ring launches in the latter part of this month. The Dark Souls will remain offline until the game’s release.
