Sony Quietly Retires from the U.K. Retailers
According to a report by Jeff Grubb, Sony has ordered U.K. retailers that they remove all PS Now subscription cards before January 21st. GamesBeat was provided with a copy from GAME of an internal directive. It stated that:
“Stores have until Wednesday, January 19th to remove all POS/ESD cards from customer-facing areas, and update their digital bays according to this week’s commercial update.”
GamesBeat reached Sony for comment but received a vague response.
A PlayStation spokesperson stated that “Globally we are shifting from PlayStation Now gift certificates to focus on our current cash denomination PlayStation Gift cards, which can also be redeemed at PlayStation Now.”

Grubb said he heard U.S. retailers doing the same thing as Canadians but had not seen any concrete evidence.
Although the PlayStation spokesperson may be correct, it is still causing controversy after a Bloomberg report claimed that Sony plans to abandon PSNow in favor of a stronger, tiered subscription service.
This report aligns with Jim Ryan’s 2021 comments about creating something to rival Xbox Game Pass. However, Sony has yet to announce its subscription strategy.
