Joji Yanami, Legendary Dragon Ball Voice Narrator, Dies at 90

Joji Yanami, a legendary Japanese voice actor, has passed away at 90. He was best known for his work with the Dragon Ball franchise.

Nikkan Sports reported that Yanami died on December 3. This was confirmed later by Aoni Production, Yanami’s agency. A private funeral was held for Yanami’s family. Aoni Production expressed its deep gratitude for Yanami’s kindness throughout his life.

The agency also posted on Twitter: “We pay our respects to the great Joji Yanami. Legendary Japanese voice actor who gave birth to King Kai, Dr. Briefs and Professor Yumi. Gennai. Babidi. Gan Fall. Narration in the Dragon Ball series, and many more. Rest in peace, and we thank you.

Dragon Ball fans have been celebrating Yanami’s life and offering support. “Rest In Peace Joji Yanami. Your voice was a crucial part of what made Dragon Ball so memorable and distinctive. Twitter “No doubt one of my favorite characters on the show, and this news saddens” R.i.p. Yagami’s voice acting career started in 1963 when cast as Boss in the anime series Wolf Boy Kenne. He began his work with the Dragon Ball series in 1986, voice acting the characters Dr. Briefs and King, Dr. Frappe and Mousse. He continued to play the role of Narrator in all other Dragon Ball anime series, including ZKa and Super. He also voiced characters for Moomin, Astro Boy and Digimon Adventure during his career.

Yanami was given medical leave from Dragon Ball Super on September 25, 2015. His roles were then passed to Naoki Takatsuta. Yanami never returned to the series, unfortunately.

Yagami’s career spanned many anime histories, and his influence on the industry will never be forgotten. We send our condolences to his family, friends and wish him well.
