FCC Could Require Phone Companies To Authenticate Calls

Now, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai suggested new rules That will require phone companies to embrace the STIR/SHAKEN protocol, an increasingly common way of caller ID authentication.

In 2018, Pai urged carriers to execute the protocol by 2019. AT&T, Comcast, T-Mobile and Verizon have implemented the technician in 1 manner or another, however robocalls continue to be a significant annoyance.

According to the FCC, US consumers get as many as 350,000 unwanted calls each 3 minutes.
