GCU gave members 20 percent off new games
Best Buy is ending its Gambling subscription services Such as the Gamers Club Unlocked (GCU) application, which provided discounts on new games for customers, as seen by SlashGear. The GCU initially cost $99.99 for a yearlong membership before being slashed to $29.99 back in March 2015. With membership, customers could receive 20 percent off new games, such as pre-orders, and additional benefits like credits.
According to a memo released to employees and shared on Twitter, Its Gamers Club apps will shut down including free paid and membership tiers, and will accept new members. Current members will still receive benefits, but will not be able to renew their membership once it finishes.
May 20th the memo is dated and states the Organization’s Point-of-sale system has stopped”prompting for enrollment” and that workers should also quit offering GCU to new customers. It is perhaps unsurprising that Best Buy is cutting the program, provided that regular customers would be able to recoup their membership fee pretty fast. That usually means that the subscription service probably ate into the company’s bottom line.
The company has not confirmed the information, though Best Buy employees have verified the authenticity of the above memo. Best Buy still has its My Best Buy app , Which offers benefits like penis pricing on items and a points scheme. But that’s arguably not as good as the GCU if you’re A gamer. There’s no word yet on whether or not Buy will roll out a The GCU to be replaced by new program.
