Don’t expect Searching II: Electric Boogaloo. Director Aneesh Chaganty promises another original story.
John Cho’s 2018 film, Hunting , is getting a sequel, but don’t anticipate a retread of this twisty techie thriller.
“The story will NOT stick to the same characters or plot line as the first,” director Aneesh Chaganty wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. “We all see this second installment as a wonderful opportunity to tell another original tech-driven thriller. With all due respect to Taken, this isn’t Taken.”
Searching needed a novel spin: The entire film plays out via displays, whether laptop searches, FaceTime phone calls and more. Cho plays with a father whose teen daughter has gone missing, and that must try to draw clues on the world wide web, social media and other programs to find her. Our inspection called it a”smart suspenseful movie dealing with the net in a clever, funny way.”
The sequel’s storyline has not been disclosed, but Slash Film says that Cho won’t be returning, and the manager seemed to affirm the attention on new characters and cast members.
“Many We see this as an chance to tell another original, tech-driven thriller,” Chaganty said in a different tweet Wednesday. “If we could do that AND help bring new faces/voices into the industry, bonus points”
Deadline called the Original Looking”the bargain of 2018 Sundance.” The thriller cost Just $5 million and grossed $75 million worldwide, the site reported.
